This series is being offered complimentary to MHA-member hospitals thanks to a generous contribution from the MHA Management Services Corporation. Access for nonmembers is $49 per session with the exception of the sessions held on Sept. 2 and Sept. 9, which are complimentary to everyone.

Infection prevention and control practices that protect the well-being of patients and staff necessitate restricting visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic. Policies may vary from hospital to hospital depending on the spread of the disease in the community, region and state; the type of care provided and the conditions for which the patient is being treated; the patient population and subsequent rick factors; and adequacy of space, supplies, staff and testing capability. Federal and state waivers provided much-needed flexibility for hospitals to prepare for and respond to the COVID-19 crisis. With fewer regulatory impediments, hospitals have been able to hone operations to better serve patients and relieve burdens on staff. This session will focus on key waivers employed by hospitals to plan for and manage the pandemic and discuss those which should be made permanent to improve access to and better provision of care.

On Wednesday, Sept. 2, a new regulation making hospital compliance with evolving federal COVID-19 data submission requirements a Medicare Condition of Participation was published in the Federal Register, effective immediately. As the COVID-19 pandemic affects every Missouri community, MHA continues to work closely with Gov. Parson’s team to advocate for sound approaches to prevention, treatment and management of this disease. With federal agencies requiring each state to accelerate detailed plans to administer an anticipated COVID-19 vaccine as early as late October, Missouri state agency staff provided an informational webinar to MHA member hospitals, providing guidance for potential vaccinators.

The behavioral health population presents with a unique set of needs, treatment requirements and discharge planning demands that have proven especially challenging during the COVID-19 response.
