MHA released its annual workforce report that publishes 2022 turnover and vacancy data from 128 Missouri hospitals for 28 hospital-based staff positions. The data also are available for 10 workforce development regions and Missouri’s critical access hospitals.

Although the rates of turnover and vacancy among nurses and many of the other surveyed professions decreased in 2022, the workforce challenges remain high — exceeding all survey years other than in 2021. The report discusses the reasons behind the staffing challenges, as well as the innovative programs and investments being made to address them.

BJC HealthCare of St. Louis and Saint Luke’s Health System of Kansas City today announced they have signed a nonbinding letter of intent to form an integrated, academic, Missouri-based health system. According to the news releases, “The integrated health system will continue to serve BJC and Saint Luke’s distinct markets, maintain their existing brands, and operate from dual headquarters — one in St. Louis serving eastern Missouri and southern Illinois, and one in Kansas City serving western Missouri and portions of Kansas.”

The letter of intent was unanimously approved by both health systems’ Boards of Directors. A definitive agreement is expected to occur by the end of 2023.

DHSS finalized rules affecting time critical diagnosis. Hospitals can access the updated rules in 19 CSR 30-40 in the Code of State Regulations. These rules are effective June 30, 2023.
