MHA published a comprehensive analysis of the CY 2024 final payment and policy updates for Medicare OPPS hospitals, which is available online for authorized users of HIDI Advantage®.
The analysis includes a summary, description of the methods, and financial implications for hospitals and/or health systems. Nationally, hospitals will see an estimated 3.08% increase in payments. Missouri hospital payments are projected to increase by an estimated 3.07%.

CMS is accepting applications for hospitals seeking to increase Medicare-funded residency slots. Section 126 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021 created 1,000 new Medicare-funded residency slots to be distributed over a five-year period beginning in 2023. Section 4122 of the CAA, 2023 created 200 new residency slots, of which 100 must be distributed to psychiatry residency programs. The deadline for hospitals to apply is Monday, March 31.

CMS released a correction notice for the Final CY 2025 Medicare Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment and Ambulatory Surgical Center payment systems. The corrections are technical in nature. MHA published an issue brief with additional details.

MU Health Care launched a nationwide study of 1,000 pregnant women with heart disease to better understand how care influences the outcomes of a mother and child. The goal of the study is to develop standardized care protocols.
Karen Florio, D.O., a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at MU Health Care and lead physician of the Missouri PQC Cardiac Conditions in Obstetric Care quality initiative, is one of the national primary investigators of the study.
MU Health Care is working with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Healthcare Institute for Innovations in Quality and Saint Luke’s Mid America Heart Institute for the Heart Outcomes in Pregnancy Expectations study.

The fourth quarter FFY 2024 inpatient and outpatient databases, including HIDI-reporting hospitals in Missouri, Illinois and Kansas City, Kan., now are available for download to subscribers of the Premier Data Package on HIDI Advantage®. The databases consist of a patient-level limited dataset, including all HIDI-reported discharges and visits to hospitals.
Files are delivered as both text files and ready-to-query Microsoft Access database files. The files can be found in “Premier Subscriptions/Inpatient and Outpatient Limited Datasets” and are organized in the following categories.

HRSA announced new grants to expand the number of fellows at accredited Addiction Medicine Fellowship and Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship programs trained as addiction medicine specialists. These providers work in underserved, community-based settings that integrate primary care with mental health disorders and substance use disorder prevention and treatment services.
The Addiction Medicine Fellowship Program encompasses both psychiatry and an addiction subspecialty for primary care doctors training in prevention and treatment services in rural areas with limited or no access to SUD treatment. The grant application deadline is Friday, Feb. 28.
