MHA prepared an analysis illustrating the financial effect of the federal fiscal year 2022 final updates to the Medicare Skilled Nursing Facility Prospective Payment System. The analysis does not include effects caused by high-cost outliers or payment for managed care patients. Although footnoted, the 2% Medicare sequestration also is excluded from the study. Facility-specific results will vary based on resource utilization groups. This analysis is posted online for authorized users of HIDI Analytic Advantage. The MO HealthNet Division said that it intends to stop producing reports of non-340B claims for 340B hospitals that are carved into Missouri Medicaid, except for hospitals requesting their reports to be continued. Reports have been produced after each MO HealthNet pay cycle. The report helps hospitals verify the accuracy of the claims that were under the new billing requirements that took effect July 1. Hospitals wishing to continue the report should contact the MO HealthNet Pharmacy Help Desk.

International Overdose Awareness Day is Tuesday, Aug. 31 — an annual, worldwide event to raise awareness that overdose deaths are preventable and to reduce the stigma associated with drug-related deaths. In observance of this event, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is encouraging health care professionals to take the Pathways to Safer Opioid Use training. The one-hour interactive training promotes the appropriate, safe and effective use of opioids to manage chronic pain.

Now available on QualityNet is version 14.0b of the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Specifications Manual, effective Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2021, unless otherwise specified. Included in version 14.0b are updates to Appendix A, which are effective Friday, Oct. 1. A complete list of changes is available in the release notes associated with the manual.

The Technical Assistance and Service Center has partnered with the Northwest Regional Telehealth Resource Center to produce a Critical Access Hospital Telehealth Guide. In response, the two organizations are hosting a webinar at 3 p.m. CDT Thursday, Sept. 9, for participants to understand the importance and scope of telehealth implementation, discuss best practices and resources, and more.

Due to growing interest, the American Hospital Association is extending the application deadline for the Rural Hospital Leadership Team Award to Thursday, Sept. 30. The award honors the leadership team that has guided their hospital and community through transformational change on the road to health care reform. The team will have displayed outstanding leadership and responsiveness to the community’s health needs and demonstrated a collaborative community process that has led to measurable outcomes.
