Hospital Incident Command System
Overview and Exercise Design Trainings
The following offerings will help operational staff understand and implement the basic HICS structure, as well as efficiently design training exercises for use at their organization.
In response to member requests, MHA is pleased to provide two additional opportunities in 2025 for operational staff to learn the basics of HICS implementation. In addition, new training courses on HICS exercise design will provide participants with practical steps for exercise development and facilitation in a hospital setting.
These events are taking place throughout Missouri so attendees may choose the most convenient date and location. Select to participate in a HICS Overview training course or in a HICS Exercise Design course, or both — no prerequisites required! All courses will take place in-person from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and are complimentary for MHA members.

HICS Exercise Design Training for Operations
This is an interactive review of the core concepts of the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program and will provide practical steps for application in the hospital setting. The program content is designed to help participants expand their organization’s emergency preparedness program through efficient exercise design and expand evaluation capabilities to ensure actionable after-action reports and improvement plans.
Instruction will focus on making the exercise design, conduct, and evaluation more effective and efficient for smaller organizations. The facilitator will provide tips and information that participants can put to use immediately within their organization. Participants also will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and learn best practices while drafting a hospital exercise that can be easily modified for functional use.
