JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — The Missouri Hospital Association today announced its endorsement of Missouri State Sen. Lincoln Hough in his campaign for lieutenant governor. Hough, a Republican from Springfield, chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee. In that role, and during his service in the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives, he has supported investments to strengthen hospitals and health care in the state.

“Lincoln Hough has been a fierce advocate for health care issues that benefit patients and our communities,” said Jon D. Doolittle, MHA President and CEO. “As the Senate’s budget leader, he has worked to ensure the investments the state makes in health care and the health workforce support the needs of communities throughout the state.”

Hough has guided the state’s investments in the health care workforce, supporting policy changes and appropriations to build capacity in nursing and other professions essential to Missourians’ care. He created and subsequently expanded the Fast Track incentive grant program, creating educational opportunities for students in the health professions, ensuring a stable pipeline of health care workers in Missouri.

“Lincoln understands the essential nature of Missouri’s caregivers and has leaned in to make sure opportunities are available to support communities’ health care needs through a skilled and continually trained health care workforce,” said Doolittle.

Hough’s leadership was essential to lawmakers’ efforts to renew authorization of the state’s funding system for the health care safety net — benefitting kids, individuals with disabilities, low-income individuals and the elderly. In addition, his ongoing leadership has been evident in his support of solutions to gaps in the behavioral health system. He has led efforts to span gaps in the current system and shaped targeted state investments to support and improve the system.

“Lincoln’s steady leadership has been essential,” Doolittle added. “Missouri needs and deserves leaders who are focused on making Missourians and our communities healthier and stronger.”
