MHA prepared an analysis illustrating the financial effect of the FFY 2025 final updates to the Medicare SNF PPS. The analysis does not include effects caused by high-cost outliers or payment for managed care patients. Although footnoted, the 2% Medicare sequestration also is excluded from the study. This analysis is posted online for authorized users of HIDI Advantage®. Current subscribers with questions about downloading files should contact HIDI.
A federal district court in Louisiana ruled against a challenge by three pharmaceutical manufacturers to overturn a state law protecting 340B contract pharmacy arrangements. Missouri modeled SB 751, in part, on the Louisiana statute. All legal theories decided by the Louisiana court have been asserted by the manufacturers in Missouri. While the case is not binding on Missouri courts, its reasoning may be persuasive to the judges adjudicating litigation challenging SB 751. The manufacturers are expected to appeal the ruling.
Damage from Hurricane Helene has led to the temporary closure of Baxter International’s North Cove manufacturing plant in Marion, N.C. This facility is a critical supplier of intravenous and peritoneal dialysis solutions, producing approximately 60% of the IV solutions used domestically. Baxter is actively working on remediation efforts and exploring alternative production sites to mitigate the impact.
Additionally, the ongoing strike by dockworkers at ports along the East and Gulf Coasts has begun to disrupt the flow of goods, including medical supplies. The duration of the strike remains uncertain, but prolonged disruptions could exacerbate supply shortages and impact hospitals’ ability to maintain adequate inventory levels.
Hospitals should use MHA’s Supply Chain Shortage Reporting Tool to provide situational awareness so that MHA can assist with mitigation strategies, and coordinate among local, state and federal entities as needed.
Signature Psychiatric Hospital will permanently close two locations at North Kansas City Hospital and Liberty Hospital, effective Tuesday, Nov. 12. Signature Psychiatric Hospital will work with state and local agencies to discharge or place any patients still needing services after Oct.1. Signature Psychiatric Hospital first opened inpatient facilities in the Kansas City, Mo., area in 2013.

Congratulations to Darrell Bonine, Vice President of Systems Programming and Integration, on 35 years of service to HIDI!
In his role, Darrell is responsible for the development, programming, and maintenance of statistical and database programs for the health care industry. He coordinates and manages the discharge data collection and integration for Missouri and partner states.
As to why MHA and HIDI are great places to work, Darrell said the organizations have a diverse group of talented and passionate individuals who work as a team to think outside of the box to solve issues or contribute ideas.
Over the course of his career, Darrell said he is most proud of building the data collection program systems from the ground up all those years ago to what it is today.
Darrell and his wife have two children and seven grandchildren who keep them busy outside of work. “We spend a lot of time in the car traversing the state, attending the grandchildren’s various sporting events. During the summer and fall, we are on the road three to five nights a week supporting them.”
In addition, Darrell also enjoys outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, traveling and, of course, baseball games. “I collect St. Louis Cardinals stadium giveaway bobbleheads by attending several games each year. My office is decorated with all my little friends I’ve collected over the years. I have an identical set of bobbleheads at home still in the original unopened boxes.”
