MHA recently sought clarification from DHSS about the requirement of hospitals with swing beds to complete the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry. The department clarified that swing beds are classified as a short-term bed that allows a patient to transition into a long-term care setting. They noted swing beds are not LTC beds, and surveyors would not look for an FCSR background check on staff performing swing bed care. If the hospital has an LTC unit, however, then they would need an FCSR background check according to LTC regulations. Additional information is available on DHSS’ website.
