MHA prepared a report illustrating the average Medicare spending per beneficiary by hospital, with comparisons to average spending for Missouri and the nation. The information includes details about Medicare Part A and Part B spending for as much as three days before admission, during the admission and as much as 30 days post-discharge.

The report is based on information released on CMS’ Hospital Compare website and uses data from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. Policy and analytic studies, prepared for distribution by HIDI, are available for download to authorized users of HIDI Analytic Advantage.

MHA has partnered with Managed Care Advisory Group, LLC for many years, which has resulted in several settlements paid to participating hospitals. MCAG recently distributed checks totaling approximately $160,000 for Missouri hospitals that chose to participate in a Lovenox lawsuit.

MHA is aware of a shortage of the GE contrast product iohexol (Omnipaquethe) due to the temporary shutdown of a production facility in Shanghai, China. The shortage is expected to continue through at least the end of June. Additional contrast agents also have been impacted as organizations seek alternatives to the GE product. Hospitals using this product are encouraged to assess potential impacts on operations and services delivered, and to implement mitigation and conservation strategies accordingly.

A special report from the Supply Chain Resource Council and a resource document from ASHP provides additional information and conservation strategies. MHA will continue to monitor the situation and will provide updates as the situation develops.

HRSA launched a toll-free hotline for expecting and new mothers experiencing mental health challenges. The hotline provides access to trained counselors to provide brief interventions and referrals to community-based and telehealth providers as needed. Callers also receive evidence-based information and referrals to support groups and other community resources. Birthing persons can call or text 1-833-9-HELP4MOMS to connect with a counselor at no charge.
