The 2023 legislative session officially ends at 6 p.m. today. The legislature passed numerous health care-related bills in the final days of session, extending Medicaid coverage for postpartum women, enacting the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact and recognizing the Rural Emergency Hospital designation under the hospital licensure statute. Several workforce bills passed that will create state-funded residency slots in primary care; provide grants to employers for employees who upskill; and establish loan repayment programs for health care, mental health and public health professionals.
The budget includes more than $50 million for hospitals, including a reduction in the amount of Federal Reimbursement Allowance tax and enhanced reimbursement for inpatient behavioral health care.
MHA will release its annual Issue Brief summarizing the 102nd General Assembly next week.
