A special HEALTHPAC Reception will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 26, in the Matterhorn Room at the Sheraton Westport Chalet Hotel in St. Louis, preceding this year’s Leadership Forum. Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe, MHA’s endorsed candidate in the Gubernatorial Republican Primary, and several other state legislators will attend. Registration is required.

The reception should be well suited for hospital CEOs, leadership team members, board members or trustees, and governmental relations staff. During this reception, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss legislative priorities and advocate on behalf of Missouri hospitals and their communities. The Congressional Budget Office released updated projections of federal subsidies for health coverage for 2024 to 2034. Net federal subsidies in 2024 for insured people are projected to be $2 trillion, and in 2034, subsidies are expected to reach $3.5 trillion. Over the 2025-2034 period, subsidies are projected to total $27.5 trillion. Of that total, Medicare would account for 46%; Medicaid and CHIP, 25%; employment-based coverage, 21%; and subsidies obtained through the marketplaces, 5%.

The Department of Justice found reasonable cause to believe the state of Missouri is in violation of the ADA for failing to provide services to adults with mental health disabilities in the most appropriate integrated setting. The DOJ report concludes that the state’s insufficient system of community-based services is forcing many people with mental health disabilities to be cared for in skilled nursing facilities unnecessarily. The DOJ will seek resolution of the issue through court action if the DMH, DHSS and DSS fail to do so in a timely manner.

CMS issued technical corrections to the recently finalized nursing facility minimum staffing rule. MHA published an issue brief with additional information.

The Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Patient Assessment Instrument is used to collect patient assessment data for quality measure calculation and payment determinations under the IRF Quality Reporting Program. CMS released the IRF-PAI quarterly questions and answers to clarify existing guidance.

Carmen Parker-Bradshaw has been named Vice President and Administrator of Crittenton Children’s Hospital for Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, Mo. Parker-Bradshaw assumed the role June 3, replacing Julie Mitchell who had been serving as the interim since May 2023.
