CMS Proposes Rule To Improve MA Prior Authorization Process

CMS recently released a proposed rule that would “streamline processes related to prior authorization for medical items and services.” MHA published an issue brief with additional details. Comments about the proposed rule are due March 13, 2023.

The FDA authorized use of the Pfizer and Moderna bivalent COVID-19 vaccines for use in children ages 6 months and older.
Hospitals should wait for CDC approval and updated standing orders from DHSS, if applicable, to begin use of bivalent COVID-19 vaccines in this age group.

DHSS published an interactive dashboard summarizing three years (2017-2019) of data from the Missouri Pregnancy-Associated Mortality Review Board. MO PAMR uses a standardized, comprehensive and evolving system to understand the context and causes surrounding a woman’s death during pregnancy through one-year postpartum. Two leading causes of pregnancy-related deaths are mental health conditions and cardiovascular disease, and the majority occur between 43 days to one-year postpartum.
The PAMR Board continues to review cases and provide recommendations for prevention. The Missouri Perinatal Quality Collaborative and Maternal-Child Learning and Action Network play an integral role in implementing recommendations.
ACCESS: NETEC published a complimentary series on infection prevention and control for special pathogens that is designed for nurses, physicians, emergency responders and other health care professionals.
