Overview

MedStar Health has always been committed to increasing access to behavioral health services as it strives to provide comprehensive, high-quality care to its communities. This event will feature MedStar Health's rapid adoption of telehealth solutions to meet the increasing demand for behavioral health services, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the significant growth in telehealth sessions and its positive impact on reducing patient no-show rates. Additionally, participants will explore the potential for telehealth to transform the future of behavioral health care, offering increased access and efficiency while potentially reshaping service delivery models. The presentation will emphasize the importance of policy support to sustain these positive changes in the health care landscape.

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

    • increase awareness of telehealth’s role and potential as a means to increase access to behavioral health services
    • understand telehealth’s impact, particularly on no-show rates and patient satisfaction scores
    • leave with actionable first steps to develop virtual care programs at your organization

Speaker

Julia McSorley serves as Director of Consultative Telehealth Operations, MedStar Telehealth Innovation Center at MedStar Health. In this role, she is responsible for overseeing the operations of provider-to-provider telehealth use cases, completing more than 130,000 consultative telehealth encounters in the 2023 fiscal year. She also serves as a subject matter expert for continuous platform development surrounding MedStar Health Video Visits (i.e., scheduled visits).

Before joining the MedStar Telehealth Innovation Center, McSorley managed clinic operations at the MedStar Georgetown Transplant Institute. In this role, she led the implementation of a virtual care model for transplant evaluations across eight regional outreach clinics. What excites her the most about this space is the opportunity to challenge our assumptions of how we provide care and the endless possibilities to transform care delivery at the system level and beyond.
