Regulatory Standards and Health Equity — Virtual Event

Audience

diversity leaders, quality leaders, patient family advocates, physicians, nurse leaders and community liaisons

The following program content was provided by the speaker.

Overview

Are you curious about what the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services expects of acute care hospitals related to the new health equity standards? Do you know what The Joint Commission is looking for during visits regarding health equity? Would you like to learn about best practices to meet these standards that support performance improvement? If so, then join us virtually for this informative event.

Dr. Maria Hernandez, Arlesia Bailey and Stephanie Hillman of Impact4Health, LLC, will provide an overview of the new health equity standards. Topics will include collecting key patient data, designating a leader to provide oversight, developing internal talent to address diverse populations and engaging the community in addressing social determinants of health.

Additionally, the American Hospital Association’s Institute for Diversity and Health Equity’s Health Equity Roadmap will be discussed, along with how this roadmap supports hospitals’ compliance with these new standards. Plenty of time will be allowed for discussion about the standards, the AHA’s Health Equity Roadmap, and related documents and processes.

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

    • discuss the CDC's definition of health equity
    • examine health equity initiatives related to access to care, addressing social determinants of health, and culturally effective care
    • discuss examples and data related to the impact of health inequities in key populations such as pregnant women, people with diabetes, and people in the LGBTQ community
    • list the four strategies for advancing health equity that are linked to new standards by CMS, TJC and NCQA
    • describe strategies for using information learned from the implementation of new regulatory standards to support enhanced effectiveness of performance improvement efforts for all populations
