The nursing shortage continues to present persistent challenges for health care leaders and administrators. Even though the American Nurses Association estimated that there will be an overage in terms of available registered nurse positions through the year 2022, there will be a demand for 1.1 million new R.N.s to fill positions in 2022 for demand to meet supply to prevent a shortage.
Psychological safety is a key aspect of a healthy work environment. The work environment where care is being delivered, and the interactions and relationships of key personnel, are the settings and dynamics that not only impact nurses’ job satisfaction and intent to leave but have the potential to impact the delivery of safe care. The need for additional research of nursing, working and practice environments, and culture is critical and even more at the forefront of concerns for leaders during the pandemic.
Session Objectives:
-
- learn about the current state of the nursing workforce
- understand the definition and origin of civilized oppression and the impact on the nursing workforce
- explore and learn strategies to address civilized oppression utilizing true Shared Governance and Thrive Theory
