CMS released a proposed rule that would strengthen the oversight of accrediting organizations and prevent certain conflicts of interest. If finalized, the rule would hold AOs accountable to the same standards as state survey agencies, ensure AOs remain independent reviewers, prevent AO conflict of interest and improve AO performance and standardization.
