Anxiety and worry. Sweaty palms. Racing heart. Sleepless nights. A sense of pending doom. For most of us, these words can describe how we feel in the days before our annual performance review. A time for helpful feedback, goal setting and encouragement instead feels like an experience that must be endured and survived like something out of a dystopia novel. However, the performance review does not have to be this way. Using social media influencers as our guide, participants will learn how to maximize the benefit of their performance review. You will learn why performance reviews add value to the employee experience, why the model used for decades no longer works and how to prepare for the performance review to demonstrate value to employers.

Alan Toigo provides HR consultation to senior leaders, managers and supervisors across multiple units, including the University of Missouri's Office of Research and Economic Development; Graduate School; Joint Office of Strategic Communication & Marketing; and Division of Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. Toigo earned a master's degree in educational leadership and policy analysis from MU and is a certified HR professional through the Society for Human Resource Management. Toigo is an at-large board member for the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources Missouri chapter. Toigo is a past examiner for the Missouri Quality Award and served on the City of Columbia's Commission on Cultural Affairs. When not working, Toigo volunteers with his spouse as small group leaders for their local church.
