Citing a strong economy and better than anticipated state finances, Gov. Parson released the remaining $280 million in spending restrictions that were put in place last July at the beginning of state fiscal year 2021. Parson previously eased spending restrictions, releasing $39 million in October and $119 million in January.

A state House committee is slated to review House Bill 86 this evening. The legislation would expand the capacity of those with concealed weapons permits to bring their weapons into hospitals, among other settings. MHA opposes the measure.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that an additional $2.3 million is being made available to Navigator grantees to continue Marketplace enrollment efforts during the 2021 special enrollment period. The SEP will run through Saturday, May 15. Acting Deputy Administrator Jeff Wu stated, “President Biden has made clear that every American deserves access to quality, affordable health care. Navigators help Americans understand their health insurance options, connecting consumers with financial help, and help them enroll in Marketplace plans, Medicaid or CHIP. During a public health emergency, it is critical for consumers to have access to assistance with finding affordable, comprehensive health coverage that best fits their needs.”

The MO HealthNet Division is requesting public comment on the planned phase-out of the Gateway to Better Health waiver. The Gateway waiver provides a limited health benefit for certain low-income St. Louis residents who are uninsured and do not qualify for regular Medicaid coverage. Medicaid expansion effectively makes the waiver moot. A condition of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ approval of the waiver is that the state phase the waiver out if and when Missouri expands its Medicaid program under the provisions of the Affordable Care Act. Comments must be submitted by Sunday, March 28.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week is Monday, March 1, to Friday, March 5, in Missouri. As part of the week, a statewide tornado drill is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 2. Hospitals are encouraged to participate and evaluate how response to a tornado may be impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Additional information about Severe Weather Preparedness Week is available.

During Ozark Healthcare’s mass vaccination clinic last week, two groups of local heroes helped the event run smoothly. Volunteers were available to transport wheelchairs and drive shuttles, and the local McDonald’s delivered sandwiches to keep energy and spirits high.
