340B Drug Pricing Program Recertification Period Underway

As previously announced, hospitals are required by the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration to attest to their entity account information in the 340B database to remain in the program. The 340B recertification period for hospital entities began Monday, Aug. 17, and continues through Monday, Sept. 14. Before being able to recertify, Authorizing Officials and Primary Contractors must set up a user account in the 340B Office of Pharmacy Affairs Information System. For assistance with the 340B OPAIS, HRSA made tutorials available or providers may contact the 340B prime vendor program at apexusanswers@340bpvp.com or 888-340-2787.

CMS Releases FY 2021 Medicare Acute Inpatient And LTCH Final Rule

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the final fiscal year 2021 payment and policy updates for the Medicare acute inpatient and the long-term care hospital prospective payment systems. CMS is estimating that IPPS hospitals will receive a payment increase of $3.5 billion or 2.7%. CMS also is estimating that LTCHs will receive an increase of 1.1% or $40 million. Major provisions of the rule include the following.

  • decreasing the uncompensated care pool by $60 million
  • cost report revisions to include market-based MS-DRG median payer-specific negotiated charges for Medicare Advantage organizations
  • changes to program performance dates within the pay-for-performance programs
  • New MS-DRGs for CAR T-cell therapies

HIDI Releases Medicare DRG Discharge And Charge Trends Summary

For many years, the Hospital Industry Data Institute has produced an annual report that provides several key measures associated with inpatient short stays as included in the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ MedPAR Final Rule file Limited Data Set. An additional executive summary has been prepared that quantifies volume, charge and reimbursement metrics observable from 2013 to 2018.

MTN Offers Kidney Disease ECHO In Missouri

The Missouri Telehealth Network, Show-Me Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes is offering the kidney disease ECHO to help primary care providers develop advanced skills and best practices aimed at improving chronic kidney disease detection, co-management of CKD with diabetes and hypertension through best practices, understanding of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality, and management of complex CKD patients. These sessions will occur on the first and third Thursday of the month from noon to 1 p.m.

TJC, NQF Seek Nominations For John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety And Quality Awards

The Joint Commission and National Quality Forum are seeking nominations for the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Awards. The annual awards program recognizes major achievements by individuals and organizations to improve patient safety and health care quality. Submissions for the awards are encouraged for patient safety and quality challenges affecting public health including, but not limited to, COVID-19 and pandemic response efforts. The deadline to submit a nomination is Monday, Oct. 5. Additional information is available.

Bates County Memorial Hospital Names Interim CEO

Dr. John Bustle, CEO of Bates County Memorial Hospital in Butler, has announced his resignation, effective Friday, Sept. 25. He has served as CEO since May 2017 and is leaving to pursue other career opportunities. Greg Weaver, chief operating officer at the hospital, was named interim CEO effective Tuesday, Sept. 1. Dr. Bustle will work with Weaver as an advisor until his departure. A list of CEO changes is available online.
