MHA submitted a waiver request to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services related to unlicensed assistive personnel. The waiver would reinstate a previous allowance that extends the required training period for UAPs beyond the first 90 days of employment. MHA will monitor the department’s response and update members with any changes. A current list of health care-related waivers is available.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services’ Healthcare-associated Infection Program launched a new reporting platform for nosocomial Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Vancomycin-resistant enterococci in accordance with 19 CSR 20-20.020(5). Beginning Oct. 4, hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers will use a secure REDCap survey for submission. New rules outlined in the 21st Century Cures Act took effect in April 2021 that, among other things, allow patients to access information in their patient record, including clinical or medical notes prepared by the provider. With these changes, many providers are considering new approaches to documentation.
The New York State Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare is hosting a webinar, “Strategies for Complying with New ONC Data Sharing Rules, Including Collaborative Documentation,” at noon CDT Thursday, Oct. 14. During the webinar, participants will hear an overview of the current and new rules, review clinical strategies for maximizing the opportunity presented by the new rules, and receive guidance for prescribers.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is hosting a Clinician Outreach and Communication Activity call, “2021-2022 Recommendations for Influenza Prevention and Treatment in Children: An Update for Pediatric Practitioners,” at 1 p.m. CDT Thursday, Oct. 7. During the call, subject matter experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics and CDC will discuss strategies primary care providers and medical subspecialists can use to improve, prevent and control influenza among children this season. As immunization remains the most effective way to prevent influenza illness, the call will highlight the importance of immunizing the pediatric population, which is particularly important during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, National Cooperative Highway Research Program published a report highlighting the form and function of the transportation systems serving rural areas. It discusses gaps in service for all forms of rural transportation, including EMS and non-emergency medical transportation.
