The U.S. Government Accountability Office issued a report and summary regarding hospital tax exemptions. The agency urges Congress to be more specific in defining the community benefits that justify tax-exempt status. It also recommends four changes by the Internal Revenue Service in enforcing the tax exemption review process. They address documentation of community benefits, auditing and other processes for assessing compliance, and examining whether benefit sufficiency should be determined by a hospital or multihospital system.
The National Rural Health Resource Center and the Missouri Office of Rural Health and Primary Care recognized HCCH for their interdisciplinary transitions of care team to improve the discharge process; enhance communication between patients, health care providers, and other caregivers; and to reduce the likelihood of readmission within 30 days.
