Today, MHA is honored to welcome Jon D. Doolittle as our 6th President & CEO. Doolittle brings decades of health care experience and served most recently as the President of Mosaic Medical Center – Albany. He has been actively involved as a board and committee member with MHA and HIDI, and was the Chair of the MHA Board of Trustees. We welcome Jon to the MHA family, and look forward to working with him on behalf of Missouri’s hospitals.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that Medicare Open Enrollment began Oct. 15, and will close on Tuesday, Dec. 7. The U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra stated, “this is an important time of year for 63 million Medicare beneficiaries across the country to compare coverage options to ensure they are getting the best benefits available at low cost. We will continue to strengthen and build upon this critical program that has vastly improved the lives of our seniors. I encourage everyone to take stock of their health and find the best plan for them in 2022.” In Missouri, approximately 1.3 million are enrolled in the Medicare program with 40% selecting a Medicare Advantage product.

MHA is providing an analysis of the Medicare Inpatient Prospective Payment System Hospital-Acquired Conditions Program and the quality trends reports. Because critical access hospitals are exempt from the IPPS HAC program, HAC reports are limited to IPPS hospitals and include estimated Medicare payment adjustments. The quality trends reports are provided for both IPPS hospitals and CAHs. The reports are provided to CAHs solely for performance benchmarking, as their payments currently are not tied to the data. Policy and analytic studies, prepared for distribution by the Hospital Industry Data Institute, are available for download to authorized users of HIDI Analytic Advantage.

The slide presentation from an Oct. 12 webinar hosted by the American Hospital Association that discussed the COVID-19 Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel measure now are available on the Quality Reporting Center. Presenters from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and National Healthcare Safety Network provided details on the new measure, including numerator, denominator, category description, and data submission and reporting requirements, as well as screenshots from the NHSN platform.

October 17-23 is designated as Healthcare Quality Week, and is the perfect time to celebrate your team’s significant contributions toward improving health care quality. The National Association for Healthcare Quality put together a variety of daily programming activities and a planning guide that can be easily incorporated into local celebrations.

Thursday, Oct. 21, is the Great Central U.S. ShakeOut, a national drill that gives hospitals and community partners an opportunity to evaluate their plans in response to a New Madrid Seismic Zone event. This year’s event allows hospitals to consider how response plans would need to be modified during a pandemic. Katie Dias, D.O., FAAFP, has been named to the newly created role of Administrator for Mosaic Medical Center – Albany. Dias replaces Jon Doolittle who was recently named Missouri Hospital Association President and CEO.
Dr. Dias currently serves at Mosaic Family Care – Grant City and Mosaic Family Care – Stanberry. She also rotates as hospitalist at Mosaic Medical Center – Albany. Her transition date from full-time patient care to administrator has not yet been determined.
