CMS released the CY 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule payment and policy updates. CMS is proposing to make significant changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Programs to help struggling ACOs. Highlights of the proposed changes include the following.

• • coding changes to evaluation and management codes
  • revisions to Category III Telehealth services
  • requests for information about underutilized services by Medicare beneficiaries
  • behavioral health proposals intended to change utilization and extend the reach of those services
  • MSSP benchmarking methodology revisions to move toward administrative benchmarks to support long-term participation
  • MIPS revisions that would extend the incentives for reporting eCQM/MIPS CQMs through program year 2024

CMS issued a final rule regarding Clinical Laboratory Improvement Proficiency Testing related to Analytes and Acceptable Performance. The rule updates PT regulations to address current analytes and newer technologies while making technical changes to referral regulations. Participation in PT is required under CLIA for laboratories that perform moderate or high complexity testing. MHA published an issue brief with additional details.

HIDI released the Care Optics^® suite of quality reports via its new flagship business intelligence system, HIDI Advantage Optics^®. The Care Optics suite replaces the quality reports previously available on HIDI Analytic Advantage. Hospital team members have access to dashboards for HACs, AHRQ, risk-adjusted readmissions and risk-adjusted mortality. Team members who were able to access the previous system can access the new system at https://secure.hidiadvantage.net.
