• The Medicare Shared Savings Program is the largest initiative with 456 ACOs and 10.9 million assigned beneficiaries in 2023. The MSSP is intended to drive growth in participation, promote equity and advance alignment across the accountable care initiatives.
• ACO Realizing Equity, Access and Community Health has 132 ACOs with 131,772 health care providers and organizations providing care to 2.1 million beneficiaries. The ACO REACH is intended to increase access to accountable care in underserved populations.
• The Kidney Care Choices model has approximately 8,400 participating health care providers and organizations serving approximately 249,983 beneficiaries. The KCC model focuses on delaying the onset of dialysis and increasing access to kidney transplantation.

CMS announced a plan to “strengthen nursing home safety and transparency.” The goal is to reduce the inappropriate use of antipsychotic medications and bring greater transparency about nursing home citations. Beginning this month, CMS will conduct off-site audits to determine whether nursing homes are accurately assessing and coding individuals with a schizophrenia diagnosis. CMS also will begin posting citations that facilities are disputing, which will be available Wednesday, Jan. 25, on Care Compare.

HIDI posted the 2021 Annual Survey 7-Year Trends report to subscribers of the Premier Reporting Package. This report displays tables and graphs depicting 7-year trends of a comprehensive set of financial metrics, as reported on the most recent Annual Licensing Survey. Reports are categorized by various peer groups, such as bed size, geographic region, ownership type, hospital type and congressional district. MHA was notified that Philips is experiencing a shortage of ventilator circuits and masks that is beginning to affect some hospitals. Philips provided an update that includes suggested potential mitigation strategies. Also available is the Minnesota Department of Health’s Patient Care Strategies for Scarce Resource Situations to support facility contingency planning.
