DHSS released the first annual report on the Statewide Telehealth Network for Forensic Examinations of Victims of Sexual Offenses Program. During the 2020 legislative session, the Missouri General Assembly charged DHSS with creating the Justice for Survivors Act Statewide Telehealth Network for Forensic Examinations of Victims of Sexual Offenses Program (Senate Bill 569 and Section 192.2520 RSMo). This report outlines the program’s progress.

The secretary of HHS extended the public health emergency related to COVID-19 for an additional 90 days and now is set to expire Tuesday, April 11. The secretary cites the continued consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic as the catalyst for the extension. MHA will continue to monitor any changes to waiver flexibilities as the result of the ongoing response.

The fourth quarter FFY 2022 inpatient and outpatient databases, including HIDI-reporting hospitals in Missouri, Illinois and Kansas City, Kan., now are available for download to subscribers of the Premier Data Package on HIDI Advantage®. The databases consist of a patient-level limited dataset, including all HIDI-reported discharges and visits to hospitals. Files are delivered as both text files and ready-to-query Microsoft Access database files. The files are located in “Premier Subscriptions/Inpatient and Outpatient Limited Datasets” and are organized in the following categories.
Hospitals interested in subscribing to the 2023 HIDI Premier Data Package should review the package information. Current subscribers with questions about downloading files should contact HIDI.

Greg Patterson has been named the next President of Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in St. Louis, effective Sunday, Jan. 15. Patterson began his career with BJC HealthCare in 2008 serving in various positions, including Director of System Real Estate, Vice President of Facilities and Support Services, and most recently as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Progress West Hospital. Patterson replaces Ann Abad who served as the president since December 2019.

Richard Liekweg, President and CEO of BJC HealthCare in St. Louis, met with MHA staff in Jefferson City today after the conclusion of the board’s first meeting of 2023. As the 2023 chair, he indicated the same values that drive him as a health system leader will guide his leadership of the association. The foundation is “The Platinum Rule.” Unlike the more familiar “Golden Rule” — which asks that we treat others as we would like to be treated — The Platinum Rule suggests we treat others as they would like to be treated. According to Liekweg, “In order to do that, you have to ask.” He believes that, through seeing the needs and expectations of others, we will have a much better chance of meeting their needs.

Dr. Heidi Miller has been appointed as DHSS’ first Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Miller was in practice at Family Care Health Center in St. Louis, and she also served as the CMO for the St. Louis Regional Health Commission and the St. Louis Integrated Health Network.
APPLY: HRSA is accepting applications for the Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program, which provides loan repayment to nurses in exchange for a service commitment at an eligible health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses or an eligible school of nursing. Applications are due Thursday, Feb. 23.
