Staff Spotlight: Brian McGeorge
CMS released the Medicare Advantage and Part D Rate announcement for CY 2025. CMS estimates that MA plans will receive an increase of 3.7% from 2024 to 2025, amounting to approximately $16 billion. CMS provided redesign program instructions as prescribed by the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 related to the new Manufacturer Discount Program. MHA published an issue brief with additional information.
HHS released a final rule focused on an extensive and comprehensive expansion of the Overdose Prevention Strategy. The final rule reduces barriers to medication and other treatment options, removes stigmatizing language and updates definitions to reflect current medical usage. HHS also outlines changes in previous grant restrictions and allows the use of federal funds to purchase Xylazine test strips. The final rule will be finalized Monday, April 1, and OTPs will have six months to implement relevant changes.
The deadline for hospitals participating in the Hospital IQR and/or Medicare Promoting Interoperability Programs to submit CY 2023 eCQM data is Thursday, Feb. 29. Each quarter must contain at least three self-selected eCQMs, plus the mandatory Safe Use of Opioids-Concurrent Prescribing eCQM. The eCQMs must be the same across quarters. To meet CMS CY 2023 eCQM reporting requirements, report the Safe Use of Opioids-Concurrent Prescribing eCQM and at least three eCQMs from the CY 2023 Available eCQMs Table, for four quarters, using HER technology certified to the 2015 Edition Cures Update criteria. The Medicare Promoting Interoperability Program requirements and attestation deadline for eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals also is Thursday, Feb. 29.

Congratulations to Brian McGeorge on 5 years of service to MHA!
Brian is the association’s creative director. In this role, he brings projects – both digital and print communications – to life with visuals.
Brian says MHA is like no other workplace. “The people here are just awesome. I dive into these cool projects that always keep me on my toes, and honestly, I love the challenge.”
Brian really enjoys working on end-to-end large projects like all of the design components of MHA’s annual convention – from logo creation, to print and digital promotional materials, to all of the visual elements onsite during the event. “It’s not just about design skills; it’s about making a real impact on the big stuff our organization is up to.”
Brian is a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan – and MHA’s 2023 annual convention was a dream come true for him as he got to meet Cardinals’ legend Ozzie Smith.
When he’s not at work, you can find him cheering on the Cardinals and other local sports teams, making moves on the chessboard or spending time with his wife and two teenage daughters.
