CMS published a proposed rule that would “adopt standards for ‘health care attachments’ transactions, such as medical charts, X-rays and provider notes, that document physician referrals and office or telemedicine visits.” If finalized, CMS is expecting the rule to produce a savings of $454 million annually in administrative costs. The rule also includes proposed prior authorization information exchange processes. Comments about the proposed rule are due on March 21, 2023.

MHA received information from DHSS on certification renewals of certified nursing assistants. The department reports there are many CNAs due for renewal Jan. 1, 2023.

Employers have the option to pay for CNA renewal. Those wishing to pay for renewal need to check the TMU registry to ensure all are listed. Then, complete the 1402 form. Once completed, submit the form to Headmaster at Missouri@hdmaster.com. Headmaster will not update the renewal if the CNA is not listed in the registry. CNAs also can renew and pay online. If the CNA has not logged into TMU and entered a current email address, they will need to call Health Education Unit at 573-526-5686 or Headmaster D & S at 800-393-8664 for assistance.

The submission deadline for the HCAHPS patient perspectives on care survey data for third quarter 2022 discharges is Jan. 4, 2023. CMS strongly encourages all hospitals, whether they self-administer the HCAHPS survey or use a survey vendor, to submit data well before the deadline to allow time to address any submission issues. The review and correction period is Jan. 5-11, 2023, during which time participating hospitals and survey vendors can review the HCAHPS Data Review and Correction Report. The report includes a summary of the data accepted into the HCAHPS data warehouse for the quarter. Errors in data accepted into the warehouse by the Jan. 4 deadline can be corrected; however, new data are not accepted during the review and correction period.
