CMS Proposes Another Rule To Improve MA Prior Authorization Practices

HHS released a proposed rule that builds on the “Affordable Care Act’s promise to expand access to quality, affordable health coverage and care by increasing access to health care services, simplifying choice and improving the plan selection process.” The rule would apply to products offered on the Federally-facilitated Marketplace. MHA published an issue brief with additional details. Comments about the proposed rule are due Jan. 30, 2023.

CMS previously released a proposed rule that would “streamline processes related to prior authorization for medical items and services.” Now CMS issued a second proposed rule that further improves the Medicare Advantage prior authorization practices. MHA published an issue brief with additional information. Comments about the proposed rule are due Feb. 13, 2023.
ACCESS: AHA released new United Against the Flu and Vaccine Confidence social media toolkits, which include graphics, sample messaging and suggested hashtags.
APPLY: HRSA is accepting applications for the Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship Program, which aims to increase the supply and distribution of new certified registered nurse anesthetists. Approximately $2.2 million per year will be awarded to as many as 80 grantees over four years. Applications are due Feb. 10, 2023.
