The U.S. Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and the Treasury released final rules concerning standards related to the arbitration process included within the No Surprises Act. The rule addresses certain provisions within the July 2021 and October 2021 NSA interim final rules that are relevant to the operation of the federal independent dispute resolution process. MHA published an issue brief with additional details.

MHA recently communicated that pharmacies no longer could make changes to certain prescriptions based on a revised policy from the DEA. The DEA reversed this policy, reverting to previous practices allowing pharmacies to make changes to certain prescriptions. The Missouri Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs issued guidance.

This week, both Moderna and Pfizer and BioNTech submitted their EUA applications for updated COVID-19 booster vaccines to the FDA. Should the FDA authorize the updated vaccines, they could become available in mid-September. The CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices is scheduled to discuss the vaccines next week.

Larry Rodgers is the new Market CEO of Kindred Hospital St. Louis, effective Aug. 10. He replaces Kevin Shrake who served as the CEO since 2018. Rodgers now will serve as the Market CEO of both Kindred Hospital St. Louis and Kindred Hospital St. Louis South.

READ: An NIH-supported study found that marijuana and hallucinogen use reported by young adults ages 19 to 30 increased significantly in 2021. Marijuana use reached the highest levels ever recorded since these trends first were monitored in 1988.
