CMS released the final FY 2023 payment and policy updates for the Medicare SNF PPS. The most notable change includes an increase to the market basket based on more recent forecasting data. The CMS economic impact study indicated that SNFs would incur a reduction of 0.9% based on the proposed rule. Based on the CMS final rule economic impact study, SNFs now will receive a payment increase of 2.7% in FY 2023. The rule also finalizes revisions to the quality reporting program, permanently applies a 5% wage index reduction cap and recalibrates the PDPM.
