MHA is hosting a webinar to provide an overview of the regulatory requirements under Missouri’s new earned paid sick time law, known as Prop A, from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 22. The webinar will feature Loren Foy, Of Counsel attorney at Spencer Fane LLP, who will explore the substantive requirements of the law and the steps employers can take to comply. The presentation will discuss the following:

• legal challenges to the law and recent developments
• substantive requirements of the law and notice obligation
• minimum paid sick time benefits
• record-keeping requirements
• penalties for noncompliance
• options for designing a compliant paid sick time or paid time off policy

There is no cost to attend for MHA members. Registration is open.

April 15 is well-known to most Americans — it’s the deadline to file your income tax returns.

The day after is probably less familiar for many individuals. However, April 16 is just as, if not more, important; it’s National Healthcare Decisions Day.

NHDD serves as an initiative that encourages people to either start or continue having conversations about their wishes for care at the end of life.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy announced the Statement of Drug Policy Priorities, outlining key initiatives to address illicit drug use in the U.S. The administration highlighted six national priorities.

• decrease overdose deaths, with an emphasis on fentanyl
• strengthen the global supply chain to combat drug trafficking
• halt the influx of drugs across borders and into communities
• prevent substance use before it begins
• expand access to treatment for lasting recovery
• advance research and data to enhance drug control strategies

The University of Missouri-St. Louis/Missouri Institute for Mental Health is offering free naloxone to help patients, and their loved ones, who present to a hospital. Naloxone, a medicine that rapidly reverses the effects of opioids, is being offered through a one-year pilot program in 2025.

UMSL/MIMH offers monthly or quarterly shipments of naloxone, kits with educational resources and a disposable one-way breathing mask, assistance on policy and procedures to distribute naloxone through the hospital, along with ongoing technical assistance and support for hospitals.

Hospital staff interested in requesting naloxone for their facilities are encouraged to complete this form or email Esmarie Swisher, with MIMH.

Submissions are still being accepted for three MHA awards that recognize the sustained improvements of its member hospitals — the Aim for Excellence Award, the Visionary Leadership Award and the Trustee of the Year Award.

Information about the selection criteria and submission process, as well as the online forms, for each award is available at the respective links. All awards will be presented during MHA’s 103rd Annual Convention scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 5, through Friday, Nov. 7, in St. Charles, Mo.

The submission deadline is noon Thursday, May 1.
