Based upon recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services amended the state’s standing order for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine administration for those who are eligible for a booster shot. This is in addition to those who are encouraged to obtain a third dose due to immunocompromised conditions. The updated order includes only the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at this time. Those receiving other vaccines should wait for further CDC guidance before obtaining a booster dose.
The following Missourians who received the Pfizer vaccine can receive a booster shot at least six months after their initial series.
-
- people ages 65 and older, and residents in long-term care settings, should receive a booster
- people ages 50 to 64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster
- people ages 18 to 49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster
- people ages 18 to 64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting (e.g., front-line medical workers, teachers and first responders) may receive a booster
MHA updated its Vaccine FAQs to include booster doses and third doses, as well as to answer additional questions on ordering and recordkeeping.
