Value-Based Care: How to Align Incentives and Achieve Coordinated Care in the Post-Pandemic World

Overview

How are hospitals and health systems approaching value-based care in the changing landscape of health care delivery? This event will explore the critical challenges faced by health care providers as they strive to achieve the long-held goal of aligning incentives and providing coordinated care in a post-pandemic environment.

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • identify challenges faced by different stakeholders, including patients, hospitals, physicians, advanced practice providers, third-party payors, pharma industry, and others
  • interpret coordinated care as envisioned in the “regulatory sprint,” including the new regulations recently promulgated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Office of Inspector General
  • describe how the pandemic has affected the nature of care provided, including the setting, patients, providers and outcomes
  • discuss how the pandemic has affected the economics of care provided, including payment models, compensation models, incentive models, and expected savings
  • discuss how to align incentives of stakeholders in the post-pandemic world

Speaker

Albert “Chip” Hutzler, JD, MBA, CVA, is a valuation director and compliance consultant for HORNE healthcare focused on helping clients comply with various health laws that impact them, including Stark, Anti-Kickback, False Claims Act, HIPAA, EMTALA, Medicare Conditions of Participation, IRS Regulations and state and local healthcare laws.

Hutzler also serves as a legal advisor and subject-matter expert advising clients and project teams on the design and implementation of federally-funded recovery programs established because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He guides the development of policies and procedures and the processing of eligibility and awards to ensure compliance with federal laws and regulations.

With more than 20 years of experience as a financial analyst and more than 25 years as an attorney, he is a published author and regular speaker on healthcare and legal compliance issues, and he is an active member in several healthcare industry associations. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School, and Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland. In addition, he is a certified valuation analyst.
