Pharmacy Conditions of Participation — Virtual Event

Audience

compliance officers and legal counsel, nurse leaders, patient safety employees, performance improvement personnel, pharmacists, physicians, risk management staff

The following program content was provided by the speaker.

Overview

Medicine errors account for the largest number of medical errors in health care. They’re also the most-common reason for unnecessary hospital readmissions. For the first time, CMS mentions that nursing needs to be aware of the pharmacy standards. This includes medicine errors, adverse events, drug incompatibilities, self‐administered medicine and required medicine policies. This program reviews the pharmaceutical services condition of participation, along with other regulatory areas that require pharmacist input and participation, such as antibiotic stewardships, medicine administration timing policies, medicine self-administration and standing orders.

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • describe CMS requirements for pharmaceutical services
  • describe minimum security requirements
  • explain the basic required policies and procedure
  • explain patient safety measures for medicine
