Overview

The role of a nurse manager is crucial and unique in health care settings. They bridge the gap between front-line nurses and administrative leadership, and are tasked with developing strong teams of nurses to deliver exceptional patient care. This two-day event delves into the distinct challenges that nurse managers face in their daily responsibilities. Through interactive discussions and case studies, participants will gain valuable insights into the complexities of this role and explore strategies to effectively overcome these challenges.

Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

discuss the process of transitioning into a nurse manager leadership role and how to successfully balance clinical expertise and managerial responsibilities
learn concepts of SWOT analysis to evaluate staff and identify opportunities for improvement
identify elements of a healthy work environment and discuss how to incorporate psychological safety and open communication
develop approaches for effective communication and collaboration across the continuum, from upper management to staff and interdisciplinary teams
discuss the nurse leader's role in maintaining regulatory compliance
analyze techniques to build a successful team by “hiring right” and successfully onboarding staff for retention
evaluate staff engagement and professional development practices to reduce turnover
discuss survival techniques to utilize in challenging interpersonal situations or confrontations
formulate elements of an individual “leadership brand” and “mantra”

Speaker Bio

Cheryle M. Kelly, MSN, R.N., has a passion for advocating for nurses to not only succeed but also to love the profession they have chosen. Her professional experiences span diverse clinical and leadership settings/roles at multiple levels. She has a proven record of success demonstrated by leadership, mentoring, team building and quality of care.

She also has taught in both associate and bachelor’s degree nursing programs, and she developed and facilitated a “best-in-practice” hospital-based new graduate nurse internship program. Kelly’s leadership style is to teach, coach, nurture and inspire the future of nursing. She is highly motivated to make a difference one nurse — or one room full of nurses — at a time.

Cancellation requests received in writing before the deadline date will receive a full refund — minus a processing fee per registrant. The deadline date and refund amount vary by event and are specified in the event confirmation details. Registrants who cancel after the deadline or those who fail to attend are responsible for the full registration fee. Substitutions are encouraged.

MHA reserves the right to cancel this event due to low enrollment, public health concerns, natural disasters or unforeseen weather conditions, or any circumstance that makes it illegal, impossible or commercially impracticable for the event to be held. In the unlikely event this occurs, a full refund for any registration costs will be provided. MHA is not responsible for nonrefundable items such as airfare, hotel or other travel costs.
