current and prospective charge nurses and nurse managers

This two-day course will set the groundwork and beyond for nurses who aspire to be leaders in the profession. The course will allow for self-analysis of leadership strengths and opportunities for improvement in areas of emotional intelligence, communication techniques, team-building, conflict resolution, and self-care and development. It also will examine readiness for change and evaluate what it takes to persevere as a nurse leader.

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

    • identify essential attributes of a nurse leader
    • recognize leadership strengths and opportunities through discussion and self-reflection
    • assess change readiness and how to be an effective change agent for staff nurses
    • identify two approaches to build trust and increase collaboration with staff nurses as a nurse leader
    • compare and contrast effective vs ineffective communication techniques for staff nurses
    • discuss benefits and barriers to effective delegation
    • demonstrate effective feedback techniques
    • recognize the importance of team-building skills and ways to motivate and actively engage self and others
