A confirmation email will guarantee registration and include a link to a Myers-Briggs assessment that you must complete by the date indicated on your confirmation to receive the assessment at the preceptor academy for which you have registered.

Dedicated and competent preceptors are vital to the success of our health care organizations and to the retention of health care professionals. Our mission is to take a proactive approach in the education and support of preceptors in the health care community.
The Missouri Preceptor Academy is a training program for hospital registered nurses and allied health clinicians serving as preceptors to guide new employees, new graduates and students through the onboarding and competence validation process of unique clinical environments. As a preceptor, you can make the difference in how a new employee adjusts to your hospital.
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- describe essential preceptor knowledge and skills
- describe strategies to facilitate the transition of novice and advanced beginner nurses to new clinical settings
- implement strategies to improve the retention of health care professionals
- develop ongoing support mechanisms for preceptors

Kristine Hart L’Ecuyer, Ph.D., R.N., CNL

Kristine Hart L’Ecuyer is an Associate Professor of Nursing and Coordinator of the Masters of Science in Nursing, Clinical Nurse Leader options at Saint Louis University School of Nursing. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri, the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and Saint Louis University.
Hart L’Ecuyer has been involved with preceptor education for more than 20 years as a hospital educator, and as a faculty member working with undergraduate and graduate students and their preceptors.
Her clinical background includes critical care nursing of adult and pediatric thoracic and cardiothoracic patients, including heart and lung transplant recipients at the University of Missouri, the University of Alabama, and St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis. She has been on the faculty at Saint Louis University since 1993 teaching undergraduate medical-surgical clinicals, clinical capstone courses, advanced pathophysiology, leadership, and was formerly the director of the continuing nursing education department. Her research interests include preceptor issues, transition to practice, nursing students with learning disabilities and interprofessional education and collaboration.
Susan VunCannon, MSN, R.N., CCRN

Susan VunCannon graduated from the Research School of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo., in 1978 with a diploma in nursing. She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Webster University in 1994 and her Master of Science in rural and family nursing, nursing education track, graduating from Central Missouri State University in 2003. She has held her Critical Care Registered Nurse certification in adult critical care nursing since 1989, and she is a National Member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
VunCannon is one of three registered nurses from the Kansas City area who developed and presented the original Nurse Preceptor Program through the Kansas City Metropolitan Healthcare Council. Her clinical experience has been in intensive care and emergency nursing. She served as a clinical educator for St. Mary’s Medical Center for more than 16 years and has practiced clinically in the emergency department for the last 22 years. Her most current professional practice is that of ICU staff nurse at St. Mary’s Medical Center. VunCannon is an instructor of both BCLS and ACLS programs at St. Mary’s. In addition, she participates on the ICU Unit Practice Council on the Retention Committee as a part of the Shared Leadership Council for St. Mary’s Medical Center and serves as a nursing preceptor for the ICU.
Participants must attend the program in its entirety and participate in a case study analysis to receive a certificate of completion and continuing education contact hours.
Registered Nurses – 7.16 nursing contact hours will be provided by the MHA Health Institute.
The MHA Health Institute is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
All Other Participants – A certificate of attendance for 7.16 clock hours will be awarded.
