Marvin Lyman, board member of Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Mo., was recognized by the Missouri Hospital Association as 2019 Trustee of the Year. The award was presented on Thursday, Nov. 7, during MHA’s 97th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Osage Beach, Mo. Lyman and Edwards

“Marvin is a vocal advocate for the issues that affect both the hospital and the community the hospital serves,” said Herb B. Kuhn, MHA President and CEO. “He understands that health happens in the places people live, work, learn and play. As a board member, he has been a persistent voice for the hospital’s engagement with businesses and community groups to enhance the health of the community.”

Lyman has served as a member of the Truman Medical Center Board of Directors since 2012. During his tenure, he served as a member of the Fiscal Responsibility Committee, Finance and Capital Committee, Compliance and Audit Committee, and Audit Committee. Although there is not an official “deputy treasurer” of the board, his astute business sense, attention to the safety net funding systems and passion for keeping TMC a sustainable community institution has led other board members to consult him on finance issues.

Lyman has contributed significantly to community and business engagement. As a mayoral appointee to the board, he brings a wealth of local civic and political connections to his service. In addition, he has advocated strongly for women- and minority-owned business engagement with the hospital system. Since he joined the board, the hospital system has grown their commitment to women- and minority-owned business by nearly 250% to $10 million annually.
