Lon Goede, a member of the SSM Health St. Clare Hospital Auxiliary in Fenton, Mo., was honored by the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries as Auxilian of the Year. The award was presented on Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Missouri Hospital Association’s 97th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Osage Beach, Mo. Edwards and Goede

Goede is affectionately known as ‘The Mayor’ of the hospital. Since the hospital opened 10 years ago, Goede has provided nearly 12,000 hours of service. He volunteers double shifts at least three days each week and routinely serves on his “days off,” picking up donations, scouting Walmart for special dolls and blankets needed by the auxiliary, and buying candy for the visitor desks.

“Lon’s ideas, actions and generosity are contagious,” said Tina Garrison, President of SSM Health St. Clare Hospital. “We are blessed to have his enthusiasm, gifts and talents serving the hospital and surrounding community.”

Goede is involved with all auxiliary committees, attends state MAHA events and still finds time to volunteer for several additional community groups. Goede and his wife Ginny both serve as volunteers at the hospital.

According to Goede, “If I can make someone laugh or smile and forget their troubles, my day is complete.”
