MHA Releases Analysis Of Medicare Programs And Quality Trends Reports

Staff Contact: Andrew Wheeler

MHA released an analysis of the Medicare Inpatient Prospective Payment System Value-Based Purchasing Program, the Hospital Readmissions Program, the Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction Program, the quality trends reports and a pay-for-performance reference guide. The VBP reports apply to IPPS hospitals and include estimated Medicare payment adjustments. Although critical access hospitals are excluded from the Medicare VBP Pay-for-Performance Program, MHA released a simulation that illustrates the effect that such a program could have on CAHs. The report includes estimated fiscal implications and scoring for each VBP domain, including patient experience of care, clinical care, safety of care and efficiency of care. The quality program measures trend reports are provided for both IPPS and CAHs.

MHA has free, on-demand webinars about the Medicare pay-for-performance programs. Policy and analytic studies, prepared for distribution by the Hospital Industry Data Institute, are available for download to authorized users of HIDI Analytic Advantage.®

National Earthquake Drill Provides Opportunity For Hospital Preparedness

Staff Contact: Jackie Gatz or Kara Amann-Kale

Tomorrow, 3 million participants are registered to participate in the Great U.S. ShakeOut. The drill, scheduled for 10:17 a.m., provides Missouri hospitals the opportunity to educate and evaluate their plans in response to a New Madrid Seismic Zone event. As we recognize Healthcare Security and Safety week, this identifies another example of the efforts hospitals make to promote safe environments of care during catastrophic incidents. Visit the Great ShakeOut’s website for more information, and find available resources related directly to health care facilities.

CMS Announces Changes To QualityNet Secure Portal

Staff Contact: Sherry Buschjost

Navigation to hospital quality reporting applications within the QualityNet secure portal has been updated. A guide that includes instructions for accessing the new applications is available. In addition to the new and improved HQR navigation experience, under development is a tool to streamline the file submission process for end users and includes the following features.

  • Electronic clinical quality measures can be submitted via the new Simple File Submission rather than utilizing the current Axway/Secure File Transfer. Instructions for navigating the SFS process for submitting QRDA I files for eCQM are available.
  • New submission processes for the remaining data types and other external files will be developed and released incrementally. SFT still will be available for file uploads, secure email and auto-route functionality throughout this upgrade. A detailed navigation guide will be sent before the release of the first phase of the new file submission tool.
