MHA Releases Issue Brief On Medicare CY 2020 Proposed Physician Fee Schedule

Last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released calendar year 2020 proposed payment and policy updates for the Medicare physician fee schedule. Comments on the rule must be received by 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27. MHA published an issue brief and additional details.

MHD DME Face-To-Face Requirements Extend To Managed Care

The MO HealthNet Division fee-for-service requirements that physicians ordering durable medical equipment document a face-to-face encounter with the patient related to the need for the equipment no more than six months before the date of the order will be extended to patients enrolled in Medicaid managed care plans effective Sunday, Sept. 1. The list of DME items subject to the face-to-face requirement is set by CMS in accordance with its regulations at 42 CFR § 410.38(g).

HIDI Tech Connect


June MUR Available On HIDI Analytic Advantage®

Data for the June 2019 monthly utilization report have been posted on HIDI Analytic Advantage® and are available to download for distribution or placement in a network folder. HIDI Analytic Advantage® PLUS has been updated to include this data. Contacts from participating hospitals have been notified by email, and they may download and save the Excel worksheet to a secure network location or PC. The data are encrypted on the site and also during the transmission from HIDI. Once the data have been transferred, it must be secured according to the hospital’s security procedures. July 2019 data now are being collected and are scheduled to be available Thursday, Sept. 5.

National Association of Attorneys General Recommends Increased Access To Treatment For OUD

In a letter to Congress, the National Association of Attorneys General request that restrictions and barriers to opioid use disorder treatment be removed. Their letter makes three requests of the federal government, including the following.

  • remove what they label the outdated 42 CFR Part 2 and replace it with the privacy regulations included in the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
  • remove the exclusions for Medicaid reimbursement for mental disorder and substance use disorder treatment
  • remove requirements for buprenorphine prescribing to “eliminate unnecessary burden” for clinicians to provide needed treatment for patients

The Beryl Institute Hosts PX Pop-Up Event At Children’s Mercy Kansas City

The Beryl Institute is hosting a Patient Experience Pop-Up event at Children’s Mercy Kansas City to bring together health care leaders, staff, patients and families to improve patient experience. The event will feature networking opportunities, discussions to share ideas and strategies, and a tour of Children’s Mercy Kansas City. The lunch and learn is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 22, and costs $75 for members and $100 for nonmembers. Registration is available online.

AHA’s The Value Initiative Hosts Executive Forum

The American Hospital Association is hosting an Executive Forum in Denver on Thursday, Sept. 26, to explore hospitals’ and health systems’ role in addressing value and affordability in health care. Included in the lineup of speakers is Melinda Estes, M.D., AHA Chair-elect, and president and CEO of Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, Mo. Estes will moderate a discussion with other leaders on how addressing unwarranted clinical variation drives value and provides better care. Attendees must be members of AHA to register for the complimentary program.
