Death in Low Mortality DRGs

Unexpected Patient Death Chart

Unexpected Patient Death Dashboard
What is it?
A diagnosis-related group is a statistical system of classifying any inpatient stay into groups for the purposes of payment. This measure evaluates patient deaths during a hospital stay who have a condition that normally has a low death rate. Missouri hospitals are evaluating the frequency of unexpected deaths to better define and characterize patients who are at risk of unexpected death. The goal is to create a positive impact in improving care, treatment and services to prevent these unanticipated events.

How's it measured?
Measured as a rate of low mortality hospital deaths per 1,000 discharges.
