Surgical Site Infection - Colon

SSI-Colon Chart

SSI-Colon Dashboard

What is it?
SSIs can occur after colon surgery when bacteria is introduced at the incision, in the body at the site of a resection or at the area connecting two structures of the large intestine. SSI rates are disproportionately higher among patients following colorectal surgeries due to the high level of bacteria found in the intestinal tract. Resulting SSIs have significant patient complications with adverse clinical and economic impact.

How's it measured?
The rate is per 100 procedures.
