House Shows Strong Support For Medicaid DSH Cut Delay

Of the 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 302 signed a letter expressing support for a delay of at least two years of pending reductions in state Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital allotments. Without congressional action, the reductions will take effect Oct. 1. Among the eight House members in the Missouri congressional delegation, six were signatories ― Reps. Emanuel Cleaver II, Sam Graves, Billy Long, Blaine Luetkemeyer, William "Lacy" Clay and Vicky Hartzler. MHA thanks them for their support.

House Energy & Commerce Committee Releases Discussion Draft About Surprise Billing

Last week, the White House released a set of principles to help curtail surprise billing activity. The House Energy & Commerce Committee now has released a bipartisan discussion draft. The draft includes language that would prohibit surprise medical bills, hold patients harmless in emergency situations, increase transparency about in and out-of-network provider status, establish a market-based payment rate benchmark, and encourage the development of state all-payer databases. The draft also has language that would defer to state law in establishing and settling payment rate disputes.

Tidball Named Acting Director Of Social Services

Jennifer Tidball will serve as acting director of the Missouri Department of Social Services following Steve Corsi’s recent resignation from the post. Tidball currently is deputy director for the department. She previously served as both acting director of the department and interim director of the MO HealthNet Division.

CMS Announces IQR Education Session

An outreach and education session for hospitals participating in the Inpatient Quality Reporting Program is scheduled at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. The presentation will provide an overview of the fiscal year 2020 Inpatient Prospective Payment System/Long-Term Care Hospital PPS proposed rule as it relates to the Hospital IQR, Value-Based Purchasing, Hospital-Acquired Condition Reduction and Hospital Readmission Reduction Programs. Registration is required.

CEO Announcements


St. Mary’s Medical Center Names New CEO

Drew Grossman was named CEO of St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Mo., effective April 1. Grossman has been associated with Florida-based Broward Health System for the past 12 years, most recently serving as CEO of Broward Health Coral Springs and Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital in Coral Springs, Fla. He replaces Steve Wilkinson who has been serving as Interim CEO since June 2018 when Deb Ohnoutka resigned. A list of CEO changes is available online.
