John Bluford Receives AHA Honor Award

John W. Bluford, III - AHA Award At the American Hospital Association Annual Meeting, John W. Bluford, III, founder and president of the Bluford Healthcare Leadership Institute, was presented with the 2019 Award of Honor for the organization’s leadership in professional workforce development, diversity and health equity. The award recognizes “exemplary contributions to the health and well-being of our nation through leadership on major health policy or social initiatives.”

Bluford was chair of the MHA Board of Trustees in 2006 and chair of the AHA Board of Trustees in 2011, and for 15 years, he served as president and CEO of Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Mo. He has been recognized by Modern Healthcare and Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the “Most Influential People in Health Care.”

February MUR Available On HIDI Analytic Advantage®

Data for the February 2019 monthly utilization report have been posted on HIDI Analytic Advantage® and are available to download for distribution or placement in a network folder. HIDI Analytic Advantage® PLUS has been updated to include this data. Contacts from participating hospitals have been notified by email, and they may download and save the Excel worksheet to a secure network location or PC. The data are encrypted on the site and also during the transmission from HIDI. Once the data have been transferred, it must be secured according to the hospital’s security procedures. March 2019 data are being collected now and are scheduled to be available Friday, May. 6.

CMS Announces IPFQR Education Session

An outreach and education session for hospitals participating in the Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting Program is scheduled at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 23. Registration is required for the webinar, “IPFQR Program Resources.”

For the second week in a row, U.S. health officials added dozens of new reports to the year’s list of confirmed measles cases, bringing the total to 465 — already the highest number in the past five years. Measles now has been found in more than a third of the U.S.
