Updates to MLN Connects Provider eNews were issued by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. eNews includes information about national provider calls, meetings, events, announcements and other MLN educational product updates. The latest issue provides updates and summaries of the following.

  • Medicare Shared Savings Program: Submit notice of intent to apply by Friday, Jan. 18
  • New Medicare card: Transition period ends Dec. 31, 2019
  • Proper use of the KX modifier for part B immunosuppressive drug claims

CEO Announcements


Landmark Hospital Of Joplin Names New CEO

Lee Simpson was named CEO of Landmark Hospital of Joplin, effective Jan. 7. He replaces Kevin Clement who had served as CEO since July 2015. Simpson has 38 years of health care leadership experience, most recently serving as interim CEO at Community Behavioral Health Hospital in Baxter, Minn. He also was CEO at Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital of Tulsa for eight years. A list of CEO changes is available online.

Consider This ...

The number of babies born in the U.S. in 2017, around 3.85 million, was the lowest since 1987. In order for the country’s population to essentially replace itself, researchers say that 2,100 babies should be born for every 1,000 women, but in 2017, the total fertility rate only reached 1,765 births.
