Four Missouri Hospital Auxiliaries Earn Honors For Volunteer Services

Four hospital auxiliaries have been honored by the Missouri Association of Hospital Auxiliaries for their volunteer services. The awards were presented on Thursday, Nov. 2, at a luncheon during the Missouri Hospital Association’s 95th Annual Convention & Trade Show in Osage Beach, Mo.

Recipients of the 2017 “Auxiliary of the Year” awards include Cass Regional Medical Center Auxiliary in Harrisonville, Mo., SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Audrain Auxiliary in Mexico, Mo., SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Jefferson City Auxiliary, and CoxHealth Auxiliary in Springfield, Mo. These auxiliaries were recognized for outstanding service between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2017.

Cass Regional Medical Center Auxiliary was honored for their exceptional efforts as an auxiliary representing a hospital with between one and 30 licensed beds. Between June 2016 and May 2017, 68 of the auxiliary’s members provided 14,961 hours of service to the hospital. Through various fundraising projects, the auxiliary donated $25,767 to several hospital priorities, including one $1,500 scholarship for a student seeking health education and an additional scholarship to a hospital staff member in need of certification.

SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Audrain Auxiliary was recognized for its volunteer activities as an auxiliary representing a hospital with between 31 and 100 licensed beds. The hospital’s 106 auxilians supported work in the hospital and provided assistance to members of the community through auxiliary programs. The auxiliary raised more than $47,000 for hospital equipment and service programs and provided $2,500 in scholarships for health care education. The auxiliary supports the Lifeline program in seven counties to help keep seniors in their homes and safe. The auxiliary also maintains a “clothing closet” to serve patients who lack clothing at discharge.

SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Jefferson City Auxiliary earned honors as an auxiliary representing a hospital with between 101 and 300 licensed beds. Between June 2016 and May 2017, 239 auxiliary members provided more than 31,631 hours of volunteer service. In the community, the auxiliary supported the Medical Explorer’s Program and Summer Student Intern Program. In addition, the auxiliary awarded two scholarships in December 2016 and five in 2017, totaling $4,200. The auxilians participate in various programs in the hospital. One project, “Code Lavender Cart,” is specifically designed to support caregivers and medical staff experiencing stress from unanticipated patients events and outcomes. In total, the SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital Jefferson City Auxiliary contributed $44,900 to hospital- and community-focused projects.

CoxHealth Auxiliary was recognized for its volunteer activities as an auxiliary representing a hospital with more than 300 licensed beds. The auxiliary’s 1,246 volunteers performed 188,000 hours of service. Although they provide assistance and support in areas throughout the hospital, they are especially dedicated to their nursing scholarship program. The program was the first initiated by the auxiliary after its founding in 1949, and this year, the effort was on track to provide $91,880 in scholarships and $37,500 to support the nursing school. In all, auxiliary programs raised $268,111 for programs that support the hospital and health services.
