CMS Extends S-10 Submission Deadline

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has again modified the deadline for hospitals to submit revised cost report worksheet S-10 data for fiscal years 2014 and 2015. The previous deadline was Tuesday, Oct. 31, and CMS extended the date to Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018.

CDC Issues HAN Health Advisory For Treating Patients Returning From Hurricane-Affected Areas

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Health Alert Network Health Advisory on Oct. 24. The advisory offers advice to health care providers treating patients in or recently returned from hurricane-affected areas, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

CMS Releases Dry Run Reports Regarding IPFQR Readmission Measure

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is providing inpatient psychiatric facilities a report that contains results on the “thirty-day all-cause unplanned readmission following psychiatric hospitalization in an inpatient psychiatric facility” measure. Facilities are encouraged to download their measure results, and accompanying measure information and user guide, from the QualityNet Secure Portal. The purpose of the dry run report is to familiarize facilities with the measure specifications and interpretation of measure results. The results will not be publicly reported. Additional information about the measure dry run, including how to download the report, measure specifications and submit questions, is available on the QualityNet inpatient psychiatric facilities measures page.

An overview of the readmission measure will be discussed in an outreach and education session at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31. Registration is required for the “Measure Dry Run Thirty-Day All-Cause Unplanned Readmission Following Psychiatric Hospitalization in an Inpatient Psychiatric Facility” webinar.

Congress Clears Second Disaster Aid Infusion

A second emergency aid measure was passed in the U.S. Senate to fund continued recovery in areas devastated by hurricanes and wildfires. The $36.5 billion bill would deliver aid to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Flood Insurance Program, Puerto Rico and wildfire response efforts.

Subscriptions Available For HIDI 2018 Premier Package

The 2018 HIDI Premier Data and Report Packages are now available for subscription orders. Introduced in October 2012, premier package subscriptions provide hospitals with access to a variety of HIDI’s most popular data products and reports at a significant discount.

The content of the Premier Reporting Package is now partially available on HIDI Analytic Advantage® PLUS as customizable, interactive reports. Currently, the “Case-Mix Index Premier Report” and “Price Transparency” report are available on HIDI Analytic Advantage® PLUS. Please note that several report offerings are only available with a subscription to the Premier Reporting Package.

The 2017 content in the premier package folders will be removed Friday, Dec. 29. Subscriptions will be automatically renewed for current subscribers, who will receive invoices in November. New subscribers or current subscribers who wish to make changes to their subscriptions should complete the 2018 premier package order form. For more information, please contact HIDI.

HIDI Releases Second Quarter 2017 VBP Payments Model

The Value-Based Purchasing Payments Model is a companion utility to the VBP Analysis that was produced for hospitals on Oct. 10. The VBP Payments Model is an interactive tool that provides hospitals with the ability to manipulate their hospital-specific quality scores to evaluate the associated change to estimated VBP payments. The VBP Payments Model is provided to subscribers of the 2017 Premier Reporting Package. The modeling utility is located on HIDI Analytic Advantage® in “Finance and Policy/Premier Reports” or “Quality/Premier Reports” folders, with the following file name: MOxxxx_VBP FFY2018 Payments Model_2017_Q2_(2017.10.25).xlsx. Hospitals interested in subscribing to the HIDI Premier Report Package should review the package information. Current subscribers with questions about downloading files should contact HIDI.

Putnam County Memorial Hospital Names New CEO

Gayle Pickens has been named chief executive officer of Putnam County Memorial Hospital in Unionville, Mo., effective Oct. 23. She previously served as chief nursing officer at the hospital. Pickens replaces David Byrns, who served as CEO since September 2016. Michael Christensen, administrator at Putnam County Memorial Hospital, also resigned, effective Oct. 9. A list of CEO changes is available online.
