The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released an advanced copy of the revisions to the State Operations Manual Hospital Appendix A. While the original version was released on Sept. 6, this revision is being issued to clarify relevant questions CMS received since the original release of the guidance. Substantive revisions to the original release are included in red italicized font in this memorandum. Those substantive changes address facilities in operation for less than 12 months, as well as the involvement of the Regional Office in determining if the hospital is primarily engaged. Additionally, significant revisions have been made to A-0022 (§482.11(b)), and A-0008 (§482.1). MHA recommends ensuring colleagues in your organizations who oversee regulatory compliance to review these changes.
