WPS Provides Teleconference About Changes In Medical Review

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Medicare Administrative Contractor, Wisconsin Physicians Services Government Health Administrators, is hosting a teleconference about changes in the medical review process. Changes are based on the results of targeted probe and review pilots by CMS, which were successful in decreasing the number of claims errors after provider education. The teleconference is scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. Registration will close Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Commonwealth Fund Mongan Fellowship In Minority Health Seeks Applications

The Commonwealth Fund Mongan Fellowship in Minority Health Policy has announced its call for applications for the 2018-2019 year. At the Harvard Medical School in Boston, applications are being accepted for a one-year, degree-granting, full-time fellowship beginning July 2018. The application deadline is 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1. All application materials must be submitted in the online application system by the deadline. An informational webinar is scheduled at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11.

CMS Updates PSVA Tool

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has updated the pre-submission validation application tool (version 1.2.2) and made it available for download from the secure file exchange area of the QualityNet Secure Portal. The PSVA tool helps hospitals identify and correct errors within the hospital’s Quality Reporting Document Architecture Category I files before data submission to CMS’ electronic clinical quality measure data receiving system. The updated version of the tool displays a new warning banner (after login) that users must accept to access the PSVA tool in compliance with CMS Acceptable Risk Safeguards 3.0.

CEO Announcements


Fulton Medical Center Names New CEO

EmpowerHMS has purchased Fulton Medical Center from NueHealth and MU Health Care. Following the acquisition, Isabel Schmedemann was named CEO of Fulton Medical Center, effective Sept. 18. She replaces Mike Powell, who served as CEO since January 2015 and has accepted the role of Group Vice President of U.S. West with NueHealth. Schmedemann previously served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at the hospital. A list of CEO changes is available online.
